Here is a circa 1960’s 1.8 length KINKO Ryu (school, lineage) JIARI style – tuned bore – shakuhachi made from rootend Madake bamboo. It was originally made as a traditional 5-hole flute but like many flutes that find their way into the hands of contemporary players, it was converted to the popular 7-hole instrument so that the Insempo scale could be played without the quarter holing the Tsu and Ri notes. I collected it in 2014 and only recently restored it but tightening the joint and making a very minor adjustment at the utaguchi for more flexibility in embouchure. There were some two plugged and moved holes for more accur tuning. The glute feels and plays like a professional instrument. It’s perfect for someone looking for an intermediate/ advanced 7-hole shakuhachi instrument. This flute can handle anything a good musician requires of it and offer many many years to grow for the beginner ( if not a lifetime) . Due to all the adjustments, it is offered at half the market value for a flute of this caliber. The flute is tuned to today’s Western pitch standard and great for playing with fixed- pitched instruments such as a piano. I have a lot of flutes from my collection that are ready to find a good home. All my instruments come with an audition period and are fully Guaranteed.
