However, although both pushers press in and depress without issue they aren’t engaging the movement as none of the chronograph functions work. Given that the battery needs to be replaced and none of the chronograph functions work a complete overhaul is required.*********** This seldom seen 2002 Seiko chronograph has a refreshing blue dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition (the difficult to see imperfections are either small scratches or dust/debris lying on the surface) and the lume glows bright. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear, residual dirt and signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “SEIKO WATER RESISTANT 5 BAR 256081 V657-9010 R1” with “STAINLESS STEEL” stamped along the inner edge and “5” followed by “BAR” stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped “SEIKO TIME CORP.” and “HONG KONG MS.” The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. The 0 jewels V657 hacking quartz movement with quickset date function had until recently been keeping accurate time and the date wheel rolled over at 12 am before the battery died out. The hacking feature had worked by pulling the crown out to the final position. When this was done the seconds hand would stop. When the crown was pushed back in the seconds hand would resume running. The quickset date function had worked flawlessly by pulling the crown out to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date had been reached. Although both pushers press in and depress without issue they aren’t engaging the movement. As a result none of the chronograph functions work. Given that the battery needs to be replaced and none of the chronograph functions work a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 39 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. This watch comes with its original stainless steel bracelet with Seiko stamped flip lock and 4585-Z-E ends that shows moderate wear and stretch. As clearly seen in the pictures it’s considerably dirty (as is the mid-case) and would benefit from a cleaning. Set on the loosest clasp setting it’s significantly too big on my approximate 6.5 inch wrist. I’d guesstimate it will comfortably accommodate up to an approximate 7 inch wrist. There are no additional links. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
