Antique French Sterling Silver Napkin Ring, Bird, Flowers, Monogrammed HL, Gaston Besegher Master Silversmith, 1886-1922 This lovely antique French sterling silver napkin ring is charmingly designed with a double row of beading executed in Guillochis work framing a border composed of leaves and flowers along with a bird. A cartouche in the shape of a parchment roll contains the monogram consisting of the initials, “H.L.”. It bears the French “Minerve Premier Titre” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. The Minerve Premier Titre is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. It also bears the maker’s mark of Gaston Besegher, master silversmith in Paris between 1886 and 1923, located in the rue de Turbigo near the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. The maker’s mark is comprised of the initials “G” and “B” surrounding a die above a goblet. This piece is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches due to normal age and use.
