What sets the Clarion 640 apart from other thermal optics is its dual lens optical system which allows the scope to mechanically alternate between a 35mm lens and a 60mm lens. When set to the 35mm lens, the Clarion 640 has a base magnification of 2x and a substantial FOV of 65 feet at 100 yards (12.5Â° x 10Â°). When set to the 50mm lens, the Clarion 640 has an increased base magnification of 3x and a narrower FOV of 38 feet at 100 yards (7.3Â° x 5.9Â°). Switching between lenses is simple and results in zero degradation of image quality. The ability to switch between lenses allows the operator use the reduced base magnification and wider FOV of the 35mm lens to observe large areas, and then use the increased magnification and narrow FOV of the 60mm lens to positively identify targets and make precise shot placements. This level of versatility is also perfect for adapting the Clarion 640 to specific environments, ranges, animals, and applications. The heart of the Clarion 640 is a 12m VOx Uncooled Focal Plane Array thermal detector with sub 20mK sensitivity. This allows the Clarion 640 to pick up heat signatures from up to 1800 yards away when set to the 35mm lens and up to 3000 yards away when set to the 50mm lens. Heat sources are projected onto a 0.39″ OLED 1024×768 display and are viewable in 4 user selectable color palettes black hot, white hot, red hot, and fusion. Similarly, the Carion 640 offers 10 reticle types to choose from as well as 5 customizable zeroing profiles for adapting the optic to various firearms and cartridges. Other features of the Clarion 640 include on-board video/audio recording and image capture, and the Shot Activated Recording (SAR) immediately captures footage when the host weapon is fired.
