Antique Glazed Redware Salmon Colored Deep Bowl Southeastern Pennsylvania For your Antique Redware Collection – AntiqueBowl5 Details Description: Beautiful antique deep redware bowl with round flat base and slightly sloping sides with plain rim. There are two incised lines below the rim. The base itself is shaped and extends outwards. The bowl is glazed inside and out, but not on the bottom of the base. The glaze is two tone salmon in color with darker brown splotches dispersed within the lighter salmon colored background. A beautiful glaze with great looking coloring making this piece a great addition to your antique redware collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 19th century or possibly earlier. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania Size: Measures ~3 1/8″ in diameter at the base, ~5 1/2″ diameter at the top, and is ~4″ high. The piece weighs a bit over one pound and one ounce. Maker: Unknown. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful antique redware bowl with great form and color. It would display very well in your collection of antique redware. It is in good condition given it is over 150 years old, just super. Condition: The bowl in good condition with no repairs. It does have some glaze loss along the top rime and to the exterior of the body, which can be seen in the photos. It also has general crazing to the glaze which gives the piece a nice character. The piece also has several old chips to the rim, which can also be seen in the photos. The piece also has some small chips or flea bites here and there especially along the edge of the base. There is also losses of glaze in the inside bottom of the bowl. The main issue we see is the piece has two tight cracks or hairlines one extends about 2 1/2″ from the top and the other is about 1″ long both start at the rim and go down along the wall (see the fourth and fifth photos). These are tight and the piece is stable and solid. Finally as is the case with all these primitive old redware pieces, the bowl has a few of the usual defects you would expect such as pops, unglazed areas and uneven spots. Be that as it may, these issues do not to distract from the beauty and quality of the piece. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
