FRENCH SEAPORT is an original serigraph pencil signed and numbered by noted sports artist Wayland Moore. The size of the image is 32’ X 24” plus full margins. The print is in mint condition and has not been framed or mounted. ABOUT THE ARTIST Wayland Moore stands 6’4”, weighs 218 Lbs. and could pass for a tight end in the National Football league. If an artist sought a model for an athlete, Moore would fit the part. But he is on the other side of the canvas -⎯ an artist who specializes in sports. He doesn’t put on canvas what he hasn’t experienced. He was a star athlete in football and is an adventurer who spends a week in the Okefenokee Swamp each year sketching the scenes and challenges of the white waters “so I can know the sweat and the fear”. Moore’s background includes a wide experience in the art field ⎯⎯⎯ agency designer, TV art director, newspaper editorial cartoonist, studio illustrator and Atlanta Braves graphic director. His editorial cartooning at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune earned him a nomination in 1967 for a Pulitzer Prize. His commissions are as varied as his background for example ⎯⎯⎯ Seattle Slew (triple crown winner), Indianapolis 500, Super Bowl of Moto-Cross, America’s Cup (sailing), World Championship Tennis, NASL, soccer, golf and the artist’s interpretation of Washington D.C. Notable works to his credit include painting baseball star Hank Aaron breaking the all-time home run record; painting presented to Billie-Jean King when she beat Bobby Riggs in the famous battle of the sexes in the Houston Astrodome and painting of golf great Bobby Jones used for the cover of the 1976 U.S. Open Tournament. He was ther artist of the Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 1984. Later he painted many specially commissioned works for leading businesses and celebrities. Listed in Who’s Who of American Art, his work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions across the U.S. and Europe, plus China and Ecuador.
