Using centuries-old techniques of antique silk doll making, artist Mei Lien has created a line of historically accurate figurines, reflecting the different eras of Chinese development. This colorful creation, called ” Lady General Mou” honors a daring Song Dynasty ( 960-1279) heroine. The intricacy, variety and craft apparent in the piece is breathtaking. It is said that learning to craft the fingers, alone, is a discipline requiring hours upon hours of dedicated practice. Created for HSN's Duck House brand in 1990, the vintage piece features brilliant fabrics, notions like pompoms and ribbons, twisted and braided threads, faux jewels and wrapped wire constructions. The regal, 10 7/8″ piece is mounted on a wooden board covered in luxe cobalt velveteen, and bears an identifying plaque in rich gold-tone. In EUC, the figure shows no apparent tears, stains, holes, fading, water damage or other condition issues. It smells fresh and clean. A stunning reminder of the grandeur that was Imperial China, the lovingly- wrought piece ships USPS Ground Advantage from Los Angeles. Artists and scholars reclaimed the lost art of Chinese Lady General Mou, (Mou Gwey Yin ) was the only daughter of General Mou.
