You are bidding on one AS-IS Stanley Number 5-1/4 wood plane as pictured. It has two serious cracks, so please keep reading. It is marked “BAILEY” on the front end, “MADE IN USA” behind the front knob, “No 5 1/4” on the back end, “STANLEY” on the lateral lever lettered vertically, “STANLEY” on the front of the lever cap in the orange infill, and the iron has the STANLEY notched rectangle logo with “MADE IN USA” below that. It also has a faint “12” mark on the left side that has been partially sanded out. Overall length of the body is about 11-7/16″. The iron is about 1-3/4″ in width, and is about 6-7/8″ in overall length. It has the slightly arched shape to the top end of the iron. The plane features the adjusting screw for the frog.The front knob and rear handles are wood with a very dark brown finish.There are two cracks as noted, one extending out from each end of the throat. The crack at the left end goes diagonally forward and then up the side, which I don’t think I have seen before. The crack at the right end goes rearward, much like what you would see on a low angle plane.Condition of the plane would otherwise be good to very good. The bottom is reasonably bright and clean, with some fine scratches from a prior cleaning or sanding, and some odd patina (color) towards the rear. The sides have a lot of sanding marks or scratches, with some discolored areas on both sides. The majority of the japanning is intact and is bright and shiny, with a sort of bubbly appearance. I don’t see any evidence that it was repainted. The front knob and rear handle are both unbroken and both have some chips in the finish, especially along the back of the rear handle, and both have a few scratches and dings in the wood. The iron and chip breaker are both reasonably clean and bright, with just a hint of pitting. The iron has seen some flattening, which could use a little more polishing. The lever cap is very good with some slight nickeling loss. A really nice plane other than the two cracks! Except as noted, there are no cracks or chips or chunks missing from any of the castings, and everything operates properly. SHIPPING: 5 pounds when boxed, insurance is included. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it’s not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20″ long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30″ long, because those longer packages won’t fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands — I don’t have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don’t have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don’t ask, the answer is no.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$. AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.PACKAGING: Please check my feedback — I package well.
