Moreover, these values are expected to fall within specified limits. The surface Resistivity meter can play a vital role in monitoring and checking the Resistivity characteristics of the above items. The surface Resistivity is conveniently indicated by a row of LED’s covering a total of 12 decades from <10^3 to >10^12 ohms/sq. Surface Resistivity measurement: – Place the instrument on any surface, which is to be tested so that the two sensor electrodes at the bottom of the Instrument are in proper contact with the surface. Gently press the TEST button on the instrument. The LED of Instrument indicates the decade measured. Here whenever the Instrument is used to measure in the conductive range, the instrument operates at 10 volts, and whenever the instrument measures the dissipative or the isolative range the instrument operates at 100 volts. Surface to ground measurement: – 1. Connect the surface to ground cord to the left hand jack on the meter and to ground. 2. Connect the surface to ground cord to the right hand jack on the meter and to the 5-pound electrodes. 3. Place the electrode on the material at the position specified by the procedure selected. Be sure to keep the cords separated in order to prevent false readings, especially when testing the higher resistance materials. 4. Press the TEST button and take the resistance reading in ohms directly from the LED display. The measurement will be resistance to ground in ohms instead of ohms/sq. Measuring Resistance Between Two Points: – 1. Connect the two surfaces to ground cords on the meter and connect the other end of the cord to 5-pound electrodes. 2. Place the both electrodes on the materials at position determined by the Procedure selected. 3. Press the TEST button and take the resistance reading in ohms directly from the LED display. IMPORTANT NOTICE: If the ambient air is humid (as in the rainy season) the instrument may indicate beyond 10^10, even when it is not placed on any surface. This is because of the slight trace of moisture condensing on the instrument body, there by forming a conductive path between the sensor electrodes. In such conditions, reliable reading can be obtained only if measurements are taken in humidity-controlled chamber; recommended humidity range is approximately 60%. MAINTENANCE: – Before taking measurements, ensure that the surface to be tested and the bottom of the instrument including sensor electrodes are clean, because dust or contaminates on either surface will lead to erroneous readings. SRM is a relatively maintenance free instrument, however incase of any mal functioning contact manufacturer. When indicated by low battery warning, please replace the 9V DC battery.
