Nice classic Italian factory built lugged Bianchi frameset of Columbus Chromor tubing for a winter roadbike or gravelbike build. Has Bianchi’s “Superset” construction with slightly ovalized lower seattube and downtube at bottom bracket junction for minimal flex and good acceleration. Sorry for the novel. But I enjoy sharing bike history. Measurements: 57.5cm center to top seatube 56cm center to center seatube 57cm toptube length ctc Rear axle dropout spacing 128mm 34.4mm tire clearance at tire point on chainstays Italian built bike in their mid-lineup in 89, instead of the many asian built 80s Bianchi roadbikes. Identified by the seperate stamping bottom bracket shell of “N.6″ if familiar w Bianchis. Italian production almost always has a seperate stamping from serial number off to the side somewhere on shell. The Chromor tubeset is slightly more rugged /thicker at butt joints at tube ends (without a great weight penalty) than the more common SL tubesets on italian racebikes. This frameset is best suited for a very strong or heavier rider putting alot of stress on the frame over time… gravel, off road riding, cyclocross especially. On Fit: I’m 5′-11.5″ and fairly long legged and long armed. To give you some sense of sizing…this is the frame size I usually build for myself for all around comfort on and offroad w the vintage 80s roadbike frames I build into gravelbikes (usually using a 90 degree stem or slight riser dirt drop style stem w dropbars). I would adapt well to someone a little smaller/shorter frame than me, but likely not above 6ft-1”. I’m very attached to the fuscia and very bright Celeste 80s graphics of this frame and patina of almost 36 yrs now, but decided to sell mostly because I have almost zero proper Italian components for it in my parts stash. On setup ideas: Can go any number of directions w a new owner. But my recipe is running 30-32mm knobby tires like a Kenda Slant Six when I can find them, and I only aquire frames that will accommodate that. Some race geometry frames won’t and some like this one will. Most touring and sport frames will and most Asian mid level and lower frames will. I use 80s “Shimano 600″ Arabesque center pull calipers(as they are pc looking) to wrap around the knobby tires, that hurdle being the limiting factor with all side pull calipers. Depending on the stem used, sometimes the current inexpensive Dimension bars in silver or black work nicely since they have a short drop to them that brings the drop position up higher. Came new w components labeled ‘”Quattro”, but not an actual groupset. For this bread & butter good selling midpriced bike in 89 Bianchi had shifting parts made special for them by Suntour (Accushift 7spd) and labelled Quattro, and cankset by Ofmega marked Quattro. Headset is unmarked Ofmega. Dropouts are Gipiemme. Condition: The photos tell the story. 35 yrs of numerous scratches, small rusty paint chips, missing paint at dropout areas, etc. A presentable bike for a project though. I touched up a few spots that bothered me with enamel paint (a rub thru tire mark on left inner chainstay, some chipping around left bb shell top edge at Bianchi graphic, and a rub thru vertical mark on lower left inside fork blade close to dropout…visible expanding photos) but wanted to leave any further touch up to a new builder, as it sometimes starts looking tacky if you touch up too much on a very old frame. I put a new Chromor tubing sticker at the top of seattube,but am not content w how it went on, and will most likely apply another I’ve ordered before frame leaves me, or mail it to the buyer afterward. The new small Chromor fork tubing decals will be included when frame is shipped, should someone want to take restoration further on this or another Chromor bike. Sold at Zummwalt’s in San Diego when new. The 1″ threaded Ofmega headset has some chrome pitting marks, but spins and adjusts nicely. Would need a deep clean and regreasing. BB threads are in good condition. Includes it’s original plastic bb cable guide and screw not pictured. Set up as new w 128mm old rear dropout spacing for 7 spd, but can be cold set a few mm in one direction or the other at a bike shop for 126 or 130mm spacing if desired.
