Vintage All Metal Divided 6 Half Gallon Foster Bros Farm Dairy Stackable* Milk Crate – NICE FORM! Dairy Name: Foster Bros. Farm.Dairy Location: I don’t know where this crate originally called home. There is a Foster Brothers Dairy Farm in Middlebury, Vermont. Perhaps that is where this crate originated. All I know for sure is that I acquired this at a farm dairy in northwestern Pennsylvania in the 1990s.Dairy Slogan(s) and Other Lettering: There is a metal tag on one end of the crate with lettering stamped or engraved. A few of the characters are about invisible or difficult to make out, so the text I am giving you is inferred and could be slightly off. Here is the text:FOSTER BROS4 FARM 62 Capacity: This crate was specifically designed to hold up to six squared half-gallon milk bottles of the type illustrated in one of the photos. The crate was made to be stackable*. *IMPORTANT STACKABILITY INFO / DISCLAIMER (Stackability can’t be guaranteed): I used this crate for years with other stackable crates and was usually able to make it fit in a stack. Sometimes the fit was really tight and had to be worked at, whether the fault of this crate or another. The bottom line is that I can show you that this crate can be stacked with other crates (see photos for examples), but I can’t promise it will work out for you with other crates that you may have. If you don’t care about stacking, then no worries.Dimensions: The crate measures approximately 15 inches long, about 12 inches wide and about about 12 inches high. The tabs on top near the corners extend about 3/4 inch from the top rim to make that 12 inch height. The crate weighs 7 pounds, 5 ounces empty. I just love the way this crate is shaped!Crate Condition: Please use the photos and video provided to assess condition. Zoom in for a close-up look! There isn’t much I can put in words that you can’t see in the photos. There is some normal wear from years of use of course, but the crate is very solid. There is some rust – both brown and white and some “stain” marks. A few rods are bent a little bit. I’ve never had any trouble fitting half gallon milk bottles in any of the divided compartments. You might find a few cobweb remnants, dust or dog hairs on the crate – I wiped it down, but not perfectly. If one has the ambition to scrub the crate inch by inch, I suspect some of the “stain” marks will wash off. Again – please use the photos to fully assess condition since it will be an impossible task for me to list every little imperfection that might exist. I don’t know for sure what metal the crate is made from, but I suspect it is galvanized steel. It does attract a magnet.Additional Comments: This is a great crate for half gallon milk bottle storage and transport. That is, after all, what it was designed for. It makes a nice display piece too. I can only guess at when and where the crate was manufactured. Perhaps the numbers on the tag represent a date? Perhaps not. I have owned this crate since the 1990s.Shipping Notes: I know that it will cost a small fortune to ship this, especially if it has to travel far from Pennsylvania. The crate is large and heavy. That means the shipping box will be even larger and heavier. If UPS delivers to your location, that might be the least expensive shipping method to use.
