Very Very RARE 1930s Adam Hats – Wide Brim – Whippet style – Gray Fedora – Beaver – size 7-1/4, we know the tag states 7-1/8 but back then there was no hat size standardization, read below. This is a Fedora that folks will take a second look at! It’s a REAL LOOKER! The leather sweatband is completely and securely attached the way around and is still very soft and pliable. That liner is made from SILK and NOT Satin! They really knew how to make OUTSTANDING hats back then! We had sent pictures to a couple of Dad’s hat collectors since Dad wasn’t certain if this was from 1930s or the 1940S. They all agreed that this was manufactured in the 1930s. The way the bound edge is sewn, the liner design ( NO plastic liner cover, the Silk liner cover and the under-tag they explained was all they needed to see to confirm the dating. NOTE: as my grandson was looking inside the original Adam hat box again there was an old yellow receipt that states: “Adam Executive – (Dated) 8/19/1932 – $12.20”. So we strongly believe that this receipt was the original receipt for this fedora. We will place the receipt under the leather sweatband when it’s shipped. There were 2 feathers also inside the hat box. One is that Peacock feather, still in great condition and then what looks to be the original feather set, that is also in great condition. Both are included in this sale. With that wide brim (2.9 inches) and the Wide bound brim edge just makes this an OUTSTANDING Fedora that folks will certainly notice! This is a Gray color. We don’t know why the pictures are not coming out correctly but the picture of the whole underside of the fedora are the best representation of the actual color. There were 2 feathers inside the hat box along with what looks like a Sterling Silver? brooch. We don’t know how that got there or if it was ever installed on the hat band for a decoration? But Dad is including it in this sale. NOTE: this ADAM HATS 1950s hat box is still in great condition! With its original hat holding insert set and minor paper wear. It’s a great sturdy hat box, shipping is a bit more expensive because this hat box is slightly larger than the Stetson burnt orange 1950s hat box and shipping outside the continental USA will include the hat box! This is one time that dad insists that the box go along with the hat. It’s going to be a bit more expensive but well worth the price! So dad has a collection of old stock coat trolley string dating back to the 1960s. If you’d like to add a Gray coat trolley string please write to us, it only adds $12 to the purchase. These are all very elastic and completely function. If you’d like dad to add a gray coat trolley string and if other folks need these for your hats, look through dad’s listing and you’ll find 2 separate listing. Black, Brown Taupe and gray or SilverBelly. These can easily be sewn onto the hat by any decent tailor or the extra string maybe cut off and used as just a decoration. This was ADAM HATS most detailed fedora they EVER made! That very wide bound brim edge and the sewing you can see on the underside took those hat makers more time but well worth the work to make this one heck of a fedora! We left it as a pinched crown fedora, as found, dad and grandson did just a bit of steam shaping to better detail and make the shape sharper. Truly a beautiful fedora! These are so very rarely found in such excellent condition! Since Dad does not have a wide selection of 1930s or 1940S Beaver hats we took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This was a perfect match for the Beaver Fifteen or Twenty. It was so close to a Beaver Twenty but Dad wants to remain conservative and rate this as a Beaver Fifteen. It so easy to determine the Beaver quality when it’s on Dad’s workbench and it’s being steamed, this just feels like melted butter and is easily shaped! It’s just so soft and thick and very easy to work with! Dad and grandson just used his horsehair brush to give it a bit of cleaning and just a bit of steam to tune up the shaping, after sitting in that box for so many years it just needed a slight tune-up. Perfectly shaped with that slight dip on the front brim. Just a great, very sharp looking fedora! Its current shape wise how it was found. A bit of detailing was steamed into the hat (currently a pinched crown) to sharpen up the fedora shape.This could easily be steamed into a center dent which would allow for “Hand Bashing”. You MUST write to us and ask if Dad is willing to reshape it? He just loves the current shape! Pictures say much more about this great fedora! We took all angles so you can see every detail! Nothing to hide! After taking pictures outside we can see there is a tiny yellowish stain? On the brim edge, see last picture. These same colors says that a cue tip with isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean this up, since Dad never wants to hide anything he is leaving as is and will leave that up to the new owners. Dad just doesn’t have any experience doing that work and since he isn’t 100% certain that it will work he won’t touch it. It’s very minor.So please look at all the pictures and you’ll see it’s extremely minor. And if you have any questions please write to us. The 1950s Original Adam Hats oval hat box with the original hat holding insert set. That box is still in good condition, worthy of storing and shipping. There is some paper wear and it looks like a tiny ding or 2 where at some point a piece of tape was used to fix it.The hat box is included in this sale! The hat and box have been together for so many years they will stay together hopefully FOREVER! There is a center ring If you have any questions please write us. Ok now the particulars This has a size 7-1/8 tag on it but there was no hat sizing standardization back then and in the 1970s the Tilley Hat Sizing chart was developed and most hat companies adopted it. This measures to a near perfect 7-1/4 at 22-3/4 inches! It is about 1/16 of an inch under. This could easily be stretched just buy wearing it or if you wear a larger size, 7-1/4 plus, it can easily be stretched, since the leather sweatband is still in excellent condition. Many of our hat buyers are using an Amazon $15 hat stretcher with excellent results. Also when we started trying to remove it we found a hidden moth chew that you will never see because it right under the hatband, where to button on the coat trolley string is.
