Vintage 1940’s, Re-Kul Pan-O-Cake Angel Food Cake Pan, Heavy Aluminum, Luker Cakes, Urbana, ILL, Baked Re-Cooled & Sold in the Pan.Re-Kul Pan-O-Cake angel food cakes were made by Jackson Luker beginning in 1939 in Urbana, Illinois. They were advertised as 13 egg cakes that would serve 12 people. The US Patent No. 2271921 is stamped on the bottom of the commercial pan, as is the full list of cake recipe ingredients. Cake pan is 3-tiered with a 5/8″ rim and has a solid center post, made of heavy aluminum with “Wt. 20 oz.” stamped on bottom. The outside of pan is stamped “Always Say Re-Cool Pan-O-Cake for America’s Finest Angel Cake”- RE-KUL PAN-O-CAKE.Some fun history facts of the cake pan: Mr. Luker accidentally discovered that his cakes kept well in these pans. The cakes were sold in the pans by mail and through retail stores for $2.50; the empty pan could be returned and refilled with a new cake for $1.25. During the years of WWII, a deposit of $10 was required to assure return of the aluminum pan. The cakes sold well and by 1947 Re-Kul was selling 400,000 cakes a year.
